Since 1997, Precise Biometrics and Fingerprint Cards have developed their own technologies for fingerprint identification. So far, the biometrics market has been slow to take off, but now the two companies are experiencing growing interest.
Precise Biometrics has signed a collaboration deal with Activcard, an American developer of systems for digital identification. Activcard has had an order from the American Defence Department for a system which will be used for identification of its 4.3 million military personnel. Each person will have their own smart card as their personal key, to be used to open doors and to access computer information.
Fingerprint Cards is collaborating with Täby-based Swedish company Comex, which develops card readers. Comex has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for card readers and cards in which fingerprint identification is to be included.
