An international Master Programme in Internet Technology has been set up to attract foreign students to the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. For autumn 2001, 30 places have been allocated for the 18-month training programme.
KTH's IT University in Kista outside Stockholm will host the training programme which aims at teaching students to design both wired and wireless networks. One long-term goal for the training is to attract future PhD students and teachers to the IT University, which at the moment is struggling to find competent personnel.
For those students who choose not to stay on at the university the future is looking equally rosy. According to professor Björn Pehrson companies are already enquiring about how to recruit hundreds of engineers with these particular qualifications.
